By the time you read the headline and first sentence, the writer has already managed to insult Americans of Hispanic heritage twice.
When Tuscaloosa, Alabama, begins rebuilding more than 7,200 homes and businesses leveled by an April 27 tornado, it may find itself missing a workforce capable of putting the city together again.
So much for liberals not being racists.
First, instead of saying “Illegal Aliens Flee Alabama’s Immigration Law” they say Hispanics, apparently assuming that all Hispanic people are illegal immigrants. (Of course the truth is that if the headlining wouldn’t be as shocking if they told the truth, they want to make it look like immigration reform is forcing all Hispanics out of the country, whether they are legal or not.)
Second, they make it seem like the only jobs the Hispanic people have are construction and manual labor.
The rebuilding, McNelly said, will be harder and more expensive without them:
“It’s not the pay rate. It’s the fact that they work harder than anyone. It’s the work ethic.”
I wish I could believe it was just the work ethic, but can anyone honestly say they believe that undocumented workers make the same amount of money for a job or has legal protection against being hurt on the job or being overworked.
No, you can’t, because it wouldn’t be true.
Undocumented workers are aware that they are dispensable. After all, there is always another one to replace them if they complain so they will work for much lower wages and will work much harder, just so that they will keep their job. This is basically slave labor.
The new law will help employ Alabamians, one of its sponsors, state Senator Scott Beason, a Republican from Gardendale, said at the June 9 signing.
“This will put thousands of Alabamians back in the workforce,” he said.
Labor Department statistics say workers are available: In Alabama, the unemployment rate was 9.6 percent in May, down from 10.4 percent in December 2009, and higher than the 9.1 percent national average.
Maybe it makes me a mean, nasty person, but I care more about the citizens of my country than I do about undocumented workers losing work.
It certainly doesn’t make me racist, the liberal news does fine making up for my share of that.
