Government Mandated Neverland: Parents? What Are Those?
I recently talked about the story of the of the Niklayev family of Sacramento, California in an article for Damn Straight Politics. The story was absolutely horrifying to me, that the police and a government organization like CPS could simply walk into your home without a warrant or any proof or documentation and take away a women’s child for unsubstantiated reports of neglect.
Are we living in the USSR now?
It’s like the government wants us to believe that we don’t have the right to raise our children as we see fit.
Oh wait, they aren’t actually OUR kids at all, they belong to the community at large, right Melissa Harris-Perry?
The government is invented a world in which parents don’t matter. Their own twisted version of Neverland where the peace pipe contains actual weed, Peter Pan is taught to recognize whether Tiger Lily and Wendy are sluts based on their clothing choices, the lost boys aren’t really sure they are boys at all, and Wendy can buy the morning after pill without talking to a doctor, a pharmacist, or her parents first.
Parents? Who needs ‘em?
A world where no one ever grows up, but they all do adult things and expect someone else to clean up the mess for them.
California is pushing for legislation that would allow boys and girls to use whatever bathroom they want, regardless of gender, as long as they feel they have a different “gender identity” than they were born with.
Yeah, that can’t possibly go wrong.
California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano [is] pushing a bill that would allow public school students to pick the bathroom of their choosing based on their “gender identity.”
Assembly Bill 1266 would force boys athletic teams to accept girls if those girls identified as boys, or vice versa. It would force schools to allow boys to use girls bathrooms if they identify as girls, or vice versa.
- Breitbart
But what about the parents? Where is their say in this little scheme to promote “equality”. Now I have no problem with people who say that they feel like they should have been born the opposite gender, but the issue is that 99% of the time they still have the same plumbing they were born with if they are under the age of 18 and so do all the other people of that gender.
So a boy who feels like a girl wants to be in the same bathroom and, quite possibly, the same locker room as well (unless they plan to relegate the one transgendered kid on the team to a separate locker room before and after practice and games. Try that and you really would hear the howls of “DISCRIMINATION!” from the left) as your daughter.
So does the rest of the male population that identifies as male. What’s to stop them from claiming they are transgendered and walking right in any way?
Do you really want the problems that come with that? I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable putting my son or daughter in a room where they are exposing their genitalia to use the restroom or shower or change for games and having people of the opposite gender sanctioned to come into that room and expose themselves right along with them.
But somehow I’m just a closed minded bigot for wanting to have a say over which gender is allowed around my child when they are removing clothing.
Then there’s the fact that the FDA has decided that not only do girls as young as 15 need to be able to buy the morning after pill, but they really need to be able to do so without their parents permission and they really need to be able to do it without talking to a pharmacist about the side effects of a drug that, essentially, performs a chemical abortion.
The government is moving the morning-after pill over the counter for those 15 or older.
Today, Plan B One-Step is sold behind pharmacy counters, and buyers must prove they’re 17 or older to buy it without a prescription. Tuesday’s decision by the Food and Drug Administration lowers the age limit and will allow the pill to sit on drugstore shelves next to spermicides or other women’s health products and condoms — but anyone who wants to buy it must prove their age at the cash register.
Yeah, 15 year olds are totally old enough and responsible enough to understand the risks of taking dangerous medication.
Here’s a quandary, why are Plan B pills stocked next to the Trojans, but you still need a doctor’s visit to be prescribed a low dose birth control pill? Why aren’t they next to the flavored, glow in the dark rubbers?
Not only that, but in New York City school nurses can hand out the Plan B pill (and have, to thousands of students) without permission from the parent. I couldn’t even get an aspirin when I was in school, without a signed release form. How much longer till this spreads to your local school?
Parent’s opinion on whether their daughter (who probably has no idea if the medication is something she is allergic too or will interact with other medication she’s on) should be taking this stuff? Why would we need that?
Here’s another interesting “WTF?!” moment that happened recently.
Outraged parents say a New York middle school instructed young female students to ask one another for a lesbian kiss – and boys learned how to spot young sluts – in an anti-bullying presentation on gender identity and sexual orientation, according to Fox News’ Todd Starnes.
According to Starnes’ report, the children attended a special April 11 health class taught by college students at Linden Avenue Middle School in Red Hook, N.Y. Parents say they were not notified of the presentation.
The students were introduced to terms such as “pansexual” and “genderqueer.”
Some of the young female students said they were told it was common for 14-year-old girls to have sex and their parents couldn’t stop them.
- WND
Now I know exactly which girl I would have asked for a kiss (and I probably would have got it) in school if this had happened to me, but that’s beside the point. (She was bad news, 2 grades above me, and so hot it hurt to look at her sometimes.)
Seriously though, what the ever loving hell?
The lesbian kiss request is weird enough, but teaching boys how to spot “sluts”? I thought that was a “no-no” in liberal ideology.
Mandy Coon, one of the parents, got it right when she said this:
“I am furious. I am her parent. Where does anyone get the right to tell her that it’s OK for her to have sex?”
__________________________
For some reason my little sister wouldn’t be able to buy a soda bigger than 16 oz. in New York City, but she could get Plan B over the counter and her parents would never be wiser. That infuriates me.
Every day they are taking away our right to make basic decisions for ourselves and our families, turning that right over to alphabet agencies. IRS, FDA, CPS, and so many others.
In the [paraphrased] words of Ronald Weasley, “Liberals need to sort out their priorities.”
Liberals really are living in a fantasy land.
Glitter, Partial Nudity, and Piracy: It’s Like a Ke$ha Music Video Became Reality

Basically a photo representation of everything this blog post is about.
I really really hate glitter bombers, there haven’t been any for a while, but I had to mention them for that title to work.
Plus I’m quoting one of my old rants about glitter bombing.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
If you would appreciate a handful of glitter in your face, a slashed cornea, and a painkiller/eye-patch fashion combo, then, by all means, keep throwing glitter at people.
If you would appreciate Bible’s being thrown at you because you are gay, and the street preachers thought that physical violence would change that, then, by all means, keep assaulting others to get them to change their opinions.
If, however, you realize how much you would not appreciate either one of those things.
Then please, give it a rest, put down the craft box, screw the lid back on the glitter container, and go write a blog or something.
Glitter bombing is completely useless for changing anyone’s opinion.
I guarantee you that if you threw glitter on me because I don’t support gay marriage I would do two things, I would report you to the police and then I would press charges. What I wouldn’t do? Start supporting gay marriage. I don’t respond well to threats and bullying.
The people who resort to this sort of “persuasion” clearly never paid attention in their “How To Win Friends and Influence People” class, because I guarantee that assault, chanting, nasty graffiti and letters and tweets, partial nudity, and theft were not on the approved list of suggestions.
But somewhere along the line they decided that temper tantrums were the way to get their point across.
What’s even worse is that, what would have been a bratty temper tantrum when a 4 year old does it, is basically assault (among other things) when a grown adult, who should know better, does it.
This is what happens when we don’t spank our children.
In Belgium a group of half naked protesters from the organization FEMEN accosted a Archbishop Andre-Joseph Leonard while he was praying. They doused him with water from bottles shaped like the Virgin Mary and shouted at him. He remained silent and praying throughout the attack.
What prompted the attack?
Leonard had told a Belgian newspaper in March that homosexuality is “a given that people find in themselves and whose origins remain somewhat mysterious,” and said he urges Christian homosexuals to adopt a life of celibacy.
Okay, so I disagree with the Archbishop on a personal level. I also disagree with his interpretation of the Bible, but he is not trying to control anyone or force anyone to do anything. He’s not going out and assaulting gay people and shouting at them to change their wicked ways. He’s not dumping holy water on them.
Why do these protesters from FEMEN feel that this mode of protest is going to change anyone’s opinion? If my church was telling me that homosexuals are wicked and sinful and vulgar (which this Archbishop wasn’t, but for the sake of argument please play along) and the sermon was interrupted by a bunch of topless, screaming women, throwing water on us and telling us not the be homophobes…you know what my reaction would be?
Yeah, that’s right, I would believe everything my pastor was saying, because those women could not possibly have proven his point more effectively.
You aren’t being helpful FEMEN, at all.
I give them credit for being one of the few feminist organizations to actually actively call out Islam on it’s treatment of women, but their tactics are all shock and very little awe. They aren’t going to change hearts or minds.
Oh and piracy isn’t very effective at changing people either Greenpeace.
Using inflatable boats from Greenpeace’s ship the Rainbow Warrior, six activists boarded the Korean-owned coal ship MV Meister at dawn on Wednesday and presented a letter to the ship’s captain explaining why they were there. The activists set up camp on the ship’s bow.
I don’t care how wonderful your intentions are (even if your intentions are dumb as hell, I’ll admit that you think they are good) taking over private property and doing…what exactly? What are they doing on the bow of this ship?
I think it’s the equivalent of chaining themselves to a tree for publicity.
Anyway, it’s not effective and if I was the captain I would throw them all overboard and douse their “camp” in gasoline, but that’s just me.
You know what’s even worse though?
Those FEMEN protesters and Greenpeace pirates are probably the sort of people that actually feel that Lena Dunham deserves an “Award for Media Excellence”.
Yeah…
Yuck, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
I’m telling you, this is what happens when you don’t spank your kids.
Seriously though, this is not an effective way to get your point across. Glitter belongs in your craft box, water is meant to hydrate your body, and camping out on Korean coal vessels without permission is not an acceptable way to spend your spring break.
Go learn how to communicate in the real world and then come back with a civilized debate. You’re only hurting your own cause otherwise.
If Once is Happenstance, Twice is Coincidence, and Three Times is Enemy Action, Then What the Hell is Ten Times?
Kermit Gosnell’s clinic, the Women’s Medical Society, was shut down in 2010 for truly heinous violations of medical ethics. Almost immediately the coverage from left wing feminist blogs began, only they weren’t actually concentrating on condemning Gosnell’s activities, as William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection points out:
The links provided in the Carmon article prove only that a small number of “feminist” writers wrote about Gosnell, but primarily out of a concern to protect abortion rights in the face of pro-life criticism of Gosnell.
Their argument primarily consisted of reminding people that Gosnell’s clinic was an outlier, that other abortion clinics were perfectly safe and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions or judge them based on what we read or see in the Grand Jury report.
The problem here is that Gosnell’s clinic is not an isolated incident, which is being shown more and more since his clinic was shut down and suddenly the Department of Health in various states have begun to start looking at the abortion providers in their states.
A cursory search (meaning I spent less than 10 minutes on it initially) turned up 10 other abortion clinics that have been shut down for health code violations (among other things) since Gosnell’s clinic was shut down.
Women Are To Hysterical and Irrational To Own a Gun, According to Democrats
Let’s play a game called “how many times can a Democrat be a misogynist without the media pointing it out”.
This will NOT be a drinking game, mostly because I don’t want you to die of alcohol poisoning.
Let’s count this off:*
1. The University of Colorado: Colorado Springs is under the impression that it’s better for women to pee, vomit, or bleed on their rapist than it is for them to, I don’t know, carry a gun or even take self-defense lessons. Those two things weren’t listed on their “safety tip sheet” for women. (Which has since been removed from the website.) Yes, I’m sure that informing my rapist that I am menstruating or telling him I have HIV or Herpes is really going to be far more effective than shooting him. *eye roll*
2. Another Colorado story (really Colorado, If this is what comes of legalizing Marijuana, then let’s keep it illegal), Democrat State Representative, Joe Salazar, is apparently operating under the idea that women are far too hysterical and irresponsible to handle carrying a weapon as a form of self-defense.
“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at,” he said during a legislative hearing. “And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble and when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop — pop a round at somebody.” – The Blaze
You know what actual rape victims think about call boxes and safe zones, Salazar?
Gun Control: Contradictions Abound

QUICK! GET THAT GUN AWAY FROM HER, SHE’S A WOMAN, SHE CAN’T SHOOT THAT!
This week in stupid things that anti-gun advocates have said.
CAROLYN MCCARTHY: I will tell you, if you talk to professionals, hunters and certainly sportsmen, they’ll tell you that’s not the gun to use. A rifle is more accurate. It’s certainly easier for a woman to be able to do that.
There are several glaring issues with this statement. Not only are AR-15 used for hunting and sporting, as well as home defense, but she seems to be making the claiming that an AR-15 is not a rifle. This alone proves that she knows absolutely nothing about guns and has no place being part of the debate about gun control. AR-15′s are most certainly rifles.
Frack You, Environmentalists

Yup, I’m a fan of Battle Star
No one is listening to you anymore and I’m sure it pisses you off. Not even Matt “Obama isn’t far enough left” Damon can make your shameless attempts to demonize mankind sell these days. Promised Land, your latest box office anti-fracking propaganda is a flop. With multiple sources predicting it to make less than 5 million dollars.
As Big Hollywood reports:
Early critical reviews indicate another preachy political mess. As shown in the past, audiences have no patients for these type of films. With these reasons in mind, “Promised Land” will flop considerably. Strike up another box office disappointment for actor Matt Damon.
The previews for this movie caused me to say “Oh bullshit” numerous times when I saw them in theaters before other movies. The only good thing about this movie finally coming out and bombing is that A.) I won’t have to see the preview everywhere and B.) maybe this will get Hollywood to wise up. If even Matt Damon can’t sell this for you, it’s time to get a new shtick.
The fact is that fracking is not as dangerous as you make it out to be. Not that Hollywood or Environmentalists have ever let tiny details like facts get in their way. The New York Times (yes, the paper that I often criticize for being a walking mouth piece for liberal ideologies. Even they get it right one time in a million.) released yesterday an article covering a study that had been commissioned and completed a year ago by the state of New York that showed that fracking was not a danger to the environment.
Why is this only coming out now? We may never know exactly why, but the expert who leaked it, seemed to believe that it was being hidden from people.
The state’s Health Department found in an analysis it prepared early last year that the much-debated drilling technology known as hydrofracking could be conducted safely in New York, according to a copy obtained by The New York Times from an expert who did not believe it should be kept secret.
- NYTimes
Popular Mechanics has debunked some of the most common arguments against (and for) fracking, at no point did they come to the conclusion that any of the arguments against fracking held any actual environmental danger.
Ann McElhinney is behind the creation of the documentary Frack Nation is attempting to dispel the miasma of environmentalist propaganda about Fracking.
If all you have is a little knowledge about fracking, you may believe this method of extracting natural gas from the ground causes environmental and health risks, and therefore should be banned. In fact, you would be unlikely to come to any other conclusion since 2010 when the movie “Gasland” was released, in which producer Josh Fox portrayed fracking as an evil and dangerous practice.
But like much of the environmentalist propaganda that passes for hard science, it turns out Fox’s conclusions about the dangers and impact of fracking are misleading. McElhinney says “Gasland” was misrepresentative, and plans to investigate the health claims surrounding the process to reveal the startling lack of scientific evidence to substantiate them.
- Townhall
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a trained geologist, but the research of pro-fracking organizations seems to trump that of the anti-fracking crowd. They certainly haven’t convinced me that I’m going to be blown up or poisoned if my town starts fracking and, frankly, when you look at who is funding movies like Promised Land you have to start wondering who has the most vested interest in keeping America dependent on foreign oil.
While left-leaning Hollywood often targets supposed environmental evildoers, Promised Land was also produced “in association with” Image Media Abu Dhabi, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media, according to the preview’s list of credits. A spokesperson with DDA Public Relations, which runs PR for Participant Media, the company that developed the film fund backing Promised Land, confirmed that AD Media is a financier. The company is wholly owned by the government of the UAE.
The UAE, a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), has a stake in the future of the American fossil fuel industry. Hydraulic fracturing has increased the United States’ domestic supply of crude oil and natural gas in areas such as the Bakken shale formation and has the potential to increase domestic production much more in the foreseeable future. That means more oil on the market, and hence lower prices for a globally traded commodity.
- Heritage
Oh yeah, the United Arab Emirates is helping fund anti-fracking propaganda. That certainly gives me pause in believing anything the movie or Matt Damon might have to say on the matter. When your financial backing comes from people who have a vested financial interest in keeping the price for their product high, they will do just about anything to keep alternative methods from being used.
Next time why don’t you just ask them to wire to money to do you directly, having their name on your movie is only going to embarrass you.
Frankly, we’re all pretty much done with you. So please Frak off.
While We Were Celebrating
Far be it for me to take away from the joy of Christmas.
I love Christmas, it’s my favorite holiday of the year.
Christmas Eve we open presents, Christmas Day we get gifts from Santa and cook enough food to feed a small army.
But while we are celebrating and arguing with our relatives over politics (don’t deny it, the number of hits this blog got and the google searches that led you here gave you away) the news cycle keeps going and some big stories broke and some merely heartbreaking ones.
The Big
Midnight Mass at a church in northern Nigeria was interrupted by a group of Islamists who shot and killed six Christians before torching the church. So very non-violent.
A “newspaper” in New York has apparently published the names and addresses of every person in New York who has a concealed carry permit. The people who should be REALLY pissed right now are those who AREN’T on the list, because this is basically a guide to all burglars on what houses to NOT rob. Thank LoHud.com for suddenly increasing the likelihood that you will be robbed if you don’t have a concealed carry permit. *thumbs up* Not really sure what they were trying to accomplish here, but I’m pretty sure whatever it is, they failed at it.
Chicago, one of the bastions of strict gun control, suffered a rash of shootings on Christmas Eve. Yes, there is something wrong with our society and gun control isn’t going to help that.
DC police are investigating David Gregory of Meet the Press for possibly violating part of DC gun control laws. Whoops. I guess you CAN still buy assault weapon magazines regardless of gun control.
Hamas is planning to break that pesky ceasefire thing with a resumption of suicide bombings in Israel. Merry Christmas!
President Obama is still in Hawaii.
Bushehr Nuclear Plant, in Iran, is paying the Russian women working their to put on a Hijab. I guess the men can’t get anything done with those women’s hair and forearms distracting them. I know I just lose all focus when I see some pretty forearms. Drives me wild. Iran is, apparently, perplexed that Russian women aren’t keen on doing this, despite the extra pay.
Netflix went down on Christmas Eve, which caused understandable outrage. I would be mad too if I was trying to avoid my relatives by watching old episodes of Seinfeld and then I had no Netflix to use as an excuse to avoid family gatherings.
In China a man rammed a car loaded with a gas tank and firecrackers into a crowd of middle school kids, injuring 13. I guess we need to ban cars, gas cans, and firecrackers, as well as guns. Damn, that’s basically 4th of July weekend for my family.
Feminists might want to take a look at Swaziland. The king (who had 13 wives) has banned miniskirts, low slung jeans, and tank tops because they make it easier for a women to be raped.
The Heartbreaking
In Britain, Children are asking Santa for a dad.
And one child called in to NORAD asking if Santa could bring extra presents so they could give them to the family’s who lost family in Newtown.
These stories actually made me cry, I’m not kidding here. Not as hard as I cried at Les Miserables, but there was sniffling and tears.
____
So that’s what happened while were celebrating our Christmas.
Let’s keep fighting for our freedom and our values in the coming year.

COME SEE THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM!

In case you weren’t aware, yesterday Steven Crowder of Fox News, was physically assaulted at a Right to Work rally in Michigan.
Misfit Politics has been keeping their readers updated on the situation with several new videos coming out of the events that occurred at the rally. I seriously recommend checking those updates periodically in case they receive new videos or information on the situation.
I would also recommend reading the comments on their article, because they contain real gems like this one from liberals.
Three cheers for the guy who whacked your hate-filled buddy though.
Conservatives are such pussies, they talk the Macho talk when they are hiding behind their keyboards, but squeal like little piggies when somebody has the guts to stand up to their bullying.
That’s right, they cheer on people who physically assault people who dare to use their first amendment rights.
This sounds familiar.
Yup, looks familiar.
Only Steven got punched and assaulted much more violently.
But maybe he was asking for it, as Leah from Misfit supposes.
Let’s use the Left’s logic for a moment and see where it takes us, shall we?
Steven Crowder was assaulted. But it’s not that big of a deal, because he was asking for it. After all, he knows that everyone in Detroit hates him and he should have known he’d be threatened if he went there.
Hypothetical situation: A woman is raped. But it’s not that big of a deal, because she was asking for it. After all, she knows that when she wears low-cut tops, short dresses, or high heels, that men will think about banging her. She should have known she’d be threatened if she did that.
Steven just shouldn’t have been there. He was asking for it, obviously.
The tent that the AFP had put up was just asking for it.
Those women and men who were there in that tent were just asking for it.
By entering the vicinity of that protest they were consenting to have physical assault and property damage done to them.
Because that’s a thing that people do.
That makes sense.
Please tell me you can here the sarcasm inherent in my voice?
Look, the fact that you disagree with the words I say is not license for you to beat me up.
I would not hit you for your opinions.
That’s how civilized people function!
We disagree, we argue, we possibly insult each other’s intelligence, but we don’t hit people. That’s one of the first things you learn in kindergarten, right up there with don’t eat paste and stealing people’s crayons is wrong, even if they do have a box of 100 crayolas and you mom only bought you a 15 count roseart set.
Liberals, if you can’t be more mature than a 1st grader then please exit the ring of rational discourse.
If you defend those that are less mature than a 1st grader, then you have lost any chance to earn respect from independents or conservatives.
From Occupy Wall Street to this. You still haven’t grown up.
Reagan, AIDS, and Liberal Lies

Rock Hudson poses with Nancy and Ronald Reagan at a White House state dinner in 1984
Recently on my political tumblr I’ve been dealing with an onslaught of messages from liberals, criticizing my respect for Ronald Reagan, because, in their words “A significant source of Reagan’s support came from the newly identified religious right and the Moral Majority, a political-action group founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. AIDS became the tool, and gay men the target, for the politics of fear, hate and discrimination.“ and “Do you think that Reagan refused to do anything positive for aids stricken people because they were gay?“
I can only be led to believe that, tumblr being a hive of liberal misinformation (like repeatedly posting links to satirical news sites as ‘proof’ that Romney wants to ban tampons), that this liberal lie has come around on the guitar again as a favored talking point.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that this is bullshit.
The first ridiculous idea here is the Reagan was some sort of homophobe.
First of all, the man worked in Hollywood and as Martin Anderson, a high level adviser to Reagan, said “I remember Reagan telling us that in Hollywood he knew a lot of gays, and he never had any problem with them,…I think a number of people who were gay worked for the Reagans,…We never kept track. But he never said anything even remotely like that comment in the movie. His basic attitude was ‘Leave them alone.’”
Reagan, in 1978, publicly opposed Proposition 6 in California, which called for the dismissal of teachers who ‘advocated’ for homosexuality.
“Whatever else it is,” Reagan wrote, “homosexuality is not a contagious disease like the measles. Prevailing scientific opinion is that an individual’s sexuality is determined at a very early age and that a child’s teachers do not really influence this.” He also argued: “Since the measure does not restrict itself to the classroom, every aspect of a teacher’s personal life could presumably come under suspicion. What constitutes ‘advocacy’ of homosexuality? Would public opposition to Proposition 6 by a teacher — should it pass — be considered advocacy?”
That November 7, Proposition 6 lost, 41.6 percent in favor to 58.4 percent against. Reagan’s opposition is considered instrumental to its defeat.
Then there is the fact that Reagan’s own family denies that he was some sort of homophobe and they were none to pleased by hatchet job portrayal of the former President in the Showtime tv movie The Reagans.
According to the screenplay for “The Reagans,” my father is a homophobic Bible-thumper who loudly insisted that his son wasn’t gay when Ron took up ballet, and who in a particularly scathing scene told my mother that AIDS patients deserved their fate. “They who live in sin shall die in sin,” the writers and producers had him say.
…
Not only did my father never say such a thing, he never would have. If you have any doubts, read the recently published book of his letters. They reveal a man whose compassion for other people is deep and earnest, and whose spiritual life is based on faith in a loving God, not a vengeful one.I was about eight or nine years old when I learned that some people are gay — although the word ‘gay’ wasn’t used in those years. I don’t remember what defining word was used, if any; what I do remember is the clear, smooth, non-judgmental way in which I was told. The scene took place in the den of my family’s Pacific Palisades home. My father and I were watching an old Rock Hudson and Doris Day movie. At the moment when Hudson and Doris Day kissed, I said to my father, “That looks weird.” Curious, he asked me to identify exactly what was weird about a man and woman kissing, since I’d certainly seen such a thing before. All I knew was that something about this particular man and woman was, to me, strange. My father gently explained that Mr. Hudson didn’t really have a lot of experience kissing women; in fact, he would much prefer to be kissing a man. This was said in the same tone that would be used if he had been telling me about people with different colored eyes, and I accepted without question that this whole kissing thing wasn’t reserved just for men and women.
You should know this story because it’s something the producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron won’t tell you. They have exhibited astounding carelessness and cruelty in their depiction of my father and my entire family. They never consulted any family member, nor did they speak to anyone who has known us throughout the years.
Then there comes this fantastical idea that liberal subscribe to which is that Reagan was happy that AIDS existed and did everything he could to stop it from being cured, because he was a homophobe who thought gays deserved to die of AIDS.
*cough*Bullshit*cough*
In a Congressional Research Service study titled AIDS Funding for Federal Government Programs: FY1981-FY1999, author Judith Johnson found that overall, the federal government spent $5.727 billion on AIDS under Ronald Reagan. This higher number reflects President Reagan’s proposals as well as additional expenditures approved by Congress that he later signed.
Table 5 of Johnson’s report shows annual federal AIDS spending during Ronald Reagan’s watch. This is hardly the portrait of a do-nothing presidency:
Government Spending on HIV/AIDS
Fiscal Year ($ Millions) % growth over previous year 1982 8 1983 44 450.00 1984 103 134.09 1985 205 99.03 1986 508 147.80 1987 922 81.50 1988 1,615 75.16 1989 2,322 43.78 Total 5,727 Source: Congressional Research Service
Funding for AIDS research went up 128.92% between 1982 and 1989!
That’s a lot of money folks, a LOT of money.
Could he have spent more? Yeah, probably. I mean were in hard economic times, but if it would have done any good to have more money spent on the research, I’m sure Reagan could have found the money somewhere.
But it wouldn’t have helped.
“You could have poured half the national budget into AIDS in 1983, and it would have gone down a rat hole,” says Michael Fumento, author of BioEvolution: How Biotechnology Is Changing Our World. “There were no anti-virals back then. The first anti-viral was AZT which came along in 1987, and that was for AIDS.” As an example of how blindly scientists and policymakers flew as the virus took wing, Fumento recalls that “in 1984, Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret Heckler predicted that there would be an AIDS vaccine by 1986. There is no AIDS vaccine to date.”
Reagan had no interest in letting gay people die. He had gay friends, ones that did in fact suffer from AIDS. He held no evangelical, Westboro Baptist, style hatred for gay people, as liberals want to make us believe.
We will continue, as a high priority, the fight against Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). An unprecedented research effort is underway to deal with this major epidemic public health threat. The number of AIDS cases is expected to increase. While there are hopes for drugs and vaccines against AIDS, none is immediately at hand. Consequently, efforts should focus on prevention, to inform and to lower risks of further transmission of the AIDS virus. To this end, I am asking the Surgeon General to prepare a report to the American people on AIDS.
- 1986 State of the Union address
