A New Breed of Elephant: Conservative Outreach, Transcending Identity Politics, and Victory in the 21st Century

Just over a year ago I announced on this blog that I was undertaking a massive project to write a book about minority conservatives. The concept was vague and undefined, but I knew that it was something that I needed to do.

I didn’t have an agent, I didn’t have a publisher, and I didn’t have a name for the book.

One year later and I still don’t have an agent or a publisher, but I have named the book and I’m proud to announce that you can now pre-order it on Amazon. (Paperback copies will be available in mid-March).

The concept of the book changed as I worked on it and eventually settled on the topic of outreach. The minority conservatives I interviewed had so many good ideas for how to reach their communities and as I wrote I realized that this topic is probably the most important one that I could address.

That’s not all the book is about, but it is the majority of the writing. The book is filled with interviews from conservatives from as many backgrounds as I could find and their ideas, along with my own research, formed the basis for the rest of the book. You’ll also find out what the core principles of being a conservative are and what it’s like to be a minority conservative.

I sincerely hope that what I have written in this book does justice to the work of those interviewed and helps conservatism to move forward into the 21st century.

I proudly announce that A New Breed of Elephant: Conservative Outreach, Transcending Identity Politics, and Victory in the 21st Century will hit the web on March 1st, 2016.

The Trials and Tribulations of Being a Single, Gay Conservative

So I wrote this a while back for another blog series on conservative dating, but I recently found out the website where it was hosted is no longer active…it took me a while to find my rough draft to repost it.

____

I have been single for that last three years. Before that I was single for nearly a year. Before that…well let’s just say there is a pattern.

Make no mistake, I’m not defined by who I date and I don’t need a relationship to complete my life. I have plenty of great friends that I would not trade for the world, but friends can’t fill in every gap left by being single.

I’m not talking about sex, get your mind out of the gutter. Y’all need Jesus.

There are so many ways that a romantic relationship is beneficial to a person, but for some people it’s really hard to find “the one” that we were promised by every Disney movie we grew up with.

I’m not single by choice, I would certainly like to have a long term relationship, but being a conservative has really killed my love life.

“The Big Book of Minority Conservatives”

That’s a working title and will not, let me repeat, will not be what the published book will be called. Absolutely not.

Have you ever been told that you are a “self-hating [blank]” by a liberal? Ever been told you “can’t” be a conservative/Republican because you are a member of a minority? Do you make liberals uncomfortable because you don’t fit the stereotypical old white straight christian male box they created to shove all conservatives in?

I know a lot of you have, because I’ve seen it happen on tumblr, twitter, facebook, and in the media. It’s happened to me too, almost daily, since I “came out” as a gay conservative.

Liberals like to pretend we don’t exist and some conservatives may not even be aware that we are in their midst, leaving them not knowing about a serious resource they could use to do voter outreach or learn how to better express conservative views to minority communities.

I want to change that with a book that will tell the stories and ideas of minority conservatives to the rest of the country.

Please contact me at MeredithAncret@gmail.com with the heading “Conservative Minority” if you would like to be part of the book. I will be conducting interviews which will be a part of the book, which I hope to have completed and on it’s way to being published (whether through a publishing company or self published) by January of 2016.

This is open to all minority conservatives. Meaning if you don’t fit the “old, white, straight, christian, male” demographic please contact me.

Examples:

young conservatives

black conservatives

gay and bisexual conservatives

pagan conservatives

native american conservatives

female conservatives

etc.

If your interview is chosen for the book you will be asked to approve your interview for publication. Not all interviews will be used, but I have plans for an interactive website in the future where your interviews, blogs, and even videos about being a minority conservative can be posted.

Apparently All My Republican Friends Hate Me

The juvenile conspiracy theories that liberals come up with when faced with gay conservatives are getting more and more absurd. Liberals seem to assume that the Republican party is a seething mass of homophobia, just looking for someone to lynch, no matter how many Republicans befriend gay conservatives.

The other day I was told “The only reason conservatives wont insult you is because they need their token members like you gays to say “hey look, we have gayz too!” Are you that gullible??”

An Open Letter: Ronald Reagan, The Big Tent, and Why the Gender I Sleep With Shouldn’t Determine My Suitability As a Republican Leader

A Message To The Republicans Who Care More About Someone’s Sexual Preference Than They Do Their Political Beliefs

The short version of this message is: were you born that stupid or did you just get hit on the head repeatedly as a child?

I don’t usually have a problem with these types, generally they come out in the comments sections of articles and have slightly better grammar (but comparable intelligence levels…okay, maybe that’s not fair) to the youtuber commentators who shout FAG!!!!111!1! at videos they don’t like.  Sometimes there’s the occasional  “conservative” blogger, talking head, or candidate, but they tend to get smacked down pretty quickly.

Other times, however, their stupid ideas need to be discussed out in the open. I’m talking about people who say things like:

We’re Eating From the Wrong Side of the Mushroom (AKA: Stop Blowing Things Out of Proportion)

I don’t usually play the “gay” card when it comes to my politics, mostly because it’s just not important.

Sure, I play it when I want to make a liberals head explode from having to deal with a Republican who isn’t a “straight, white male” but that’s pretty much it.

I have little to no use for minority or collective politics, that’s why I’m a conservative. I have absolute no need for advocacy groups for my sexuality or gender.

That’s not to say that I don’t like GOProud to a certain extent or that I’m not a member. I do credit them (though more because of Breitbart’s initial involvement with them, than the group itself) with helping me come out of my conservative closet, and I like Jimmy and Chris quite well. I don’t want people getting the idea that I dislike GOProud or what they do…I just don’t always think they are right all the time, just by virtue of being run by gay people. That would be a disservice to them and to my own conservative beliefs.
